The removal of Ummey Fatema Najma Begum Prakash Shiuli Azad, Member of Parliament from the reserved women’s seat (Seat No-312) of the National Parliament has been demanded. This demand was announced from the human chain, demonstration and protest rally held in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria on Sunday morning. Thousands of people participated in that program. Shiuli Azad is General Secretary of Sarail Upazila Awami League. Shiuli Azad’s husband and former General Secretary of Upazila Awami League AKM Iqbal, accused in the charge sheet of the murder case, were behind the human chain held under the banner of the civil society on Sunday, who are on bail. They held this program based on Shiuli Azad’s speech in Parliament.

In the morning, a human chain program was held from Sarail Hospital intersection to Upazila Chattar, about one kilometer long. During the human chain, traffic on that road was stopped for about an hour. A protest march was held after the human chain. At the end of the protest march, former General Secretary of Sarail Upazila Awami League and chairman of Sarail Upazila Parishad, Rafiq Uddin Thakur, former commander of Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad and president of Sadar Union Awami League spoke at the rally held in the premises of Sarail Central Shaheed Minar. Ismat Ali, the former deputy commander of the upazila freedom fighters. Anwar Hossain, former joint secretary of Upazila Awami League Abdul Jabbar, former organizational secretary of Upazila Awami League. Mahfuz Ali, former General Secretary of Upazila Chhatra League Hafezul Asad Caesar and others.

The speakers in the human chain said, “A gang has killed Iqbal Azad.” That circle is conspiring to deprive the upazila Awami League of its leadership by accusing innocent people in the Iqbal Azad murder case. They are trying to hide the real killers. And his wife Shiuli Azad stood up in the Parliament on June 19 and lied about the murder.

The speakers challenged and said, “Umme Fatema Nazma Begum Prakash Shiuli Azad MP’s father-in-law Abdul Khalek was the then chairman of the peace committee, so the freedom fighters killed him.” His nephew Humayun Azad died in a road accident. The speakers demanded a re-investigation into the Iqbal Azad murder case.

Iqbal Azad, the former general secretary of Sarail Upazila Awami League, was killed by his opponent on October 21, 2012, due to a party dispute. In this incident, the younger brother of the deceased, engineer Jahangir Azad, was the general secretary of the upazila Awami League. Filed a murder case against Rafiq Uddin Thakur and 21 members of the party.
