Rajapur Upazila Correspondent : Two passengers were killed in a head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound Barisal Express bus and a Mahindra (CNG-powered three-wheeler) in Rajapur Upazila of Jhalakathi. Four others, including the driver of the Mahindra, were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at around 9:15 pm on Wednesday (July 30) in the cooperative area of Boro Kaibartakhali village in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, a Mahindra was heading from Barisal to Bhandaria in Pirojpur with passengers. The Mahindra overturned when it collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound Barisal Express bus coming from the opposite direction. Two passengers of the Mahindra died on the spot and four others, including the driver, were seriously injured.
The deceased are Mehedi (24), a resident of Ward No. 3 of Gouripur Union in Bhandaria Upazila of Pirojpur, son of Md. Bellal Sardar, and ABM Abdur Rahim, a resident of Kachua area in Kantalia Upazila of Jhalakathi, son of the late Hossain Master.
The injured are Rimon Chandra Bepari (35) of Tarabunia village in Rajapur upazila, Abir Rahman (31) and Nazrul Islam (55) of Bhandaria upazila. The name of the injured Mahindra driver was not immediately known. Locals rescued them and admitted them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal.
Locals alleged that the Dhaka-bound bus quickly left the scene after the accident. However, police are working to identify the bus and investigate the cause of the accident.
Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sujan Biswas confirmed the incident and said that the deceased have been identified and their relatives have been informed. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The process of taking necessary legal action in this incident is underway.
