Kurigram Correspondent : A 20-year-long land dispute between two brothers in Kurigram Sadar Upazila has come to an end. The two families have regained peace after the dispute was resolved through negotiations initiated by local public representatives and the Sadar Police Station.
The dispute was settled with the consent of both parties at an arbitration meeting held in Bhogdanga Union of Sadar Upazila on Saturday (July 11) afternoon. Members of the two families as well as locals expressed satisfaction over the end of the long-standing dispute.
According to local sources, two brothers, Md. Amir Hossain and Md. Zahurul Islam, residents of Biswaser Khamar area of ​​Bhogdanga Union, had been in a dispute for almost two decades over the boundaries of their house, agricultural land and roads. There have been several clashes between the two parties over this. People from both sides were injured in the fight and have been treated at the hospital.
Present at the arbitration meeting were Bhogdanga Union Parishad Chairman Saidur Rahman, local UP member Md. Majedul Islam and prominent figures from the area.
In addition, in the arbitration meeting, both sides pledged that no such disputes or unpleasant incidents would occur again in the future. They also expressed their determination to proceed peacefully and on the basis of mutual understanding.
Md. Amir Hossain said, “Our father died about 26 years ago. After that, we brothers divided the land as a family. After a few days, a dispute arose with my younger brother over various issues. That long-standing dispute ended today through discussion. We are all happy about this.”
Bhogdanga Union Parishad Chairman Saidur Rahman said that the long-standing dispute had deteriorated the relationship between the two families. Through sincere efforts of the administration, local public representatives and senior members of the society, both sides reached an agreement through discussions.
Kurigram Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamal Hossain said that there was a long-standing dispute between two brothers over land. After receiving complaints from both sides, the matter was resolved peacefully through discussions with the help of local public representatives.
