Md. Anisur Rahman Shelly: A woman was killed in a collision between a passenger bus and a motorbike on the Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway near the Nalya bus stand in Dhanbari upazila on Friday (July 10) afternoon. Two other riders of the bike were seriously injured in the accident. The deceased woman, Rita Akhtar (50), is the wife of Sakhawat Hossain of Gopinathpur village in Bhuiyanpur upazila. She was heading towards Jamalpur on a motorcycle with her husband and son.
Police said that a motorcycle going from Bhuiyanpur to Jamalpur collided head-on with an unidentified passenger bus going from Jamalpur to Dhaka. The intensity of the collision caused the motorcycle to twist and Rita Akhter was killed on the spot. Rita’s husband Sakhawat Hossain (60) and son Arif (25) were seriously injured in the accident. Local people quickly rescued them and took them to Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex. After providing them with primary treatment, the doctor on duty referred them to Tangail Medical College Hospital for better treatment as their physical condition deteriorated. They are currently undergoing treatment there. A shadow of grief descended among the locals after the accident. On receiving the news, Dhanbari Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Dhanbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurus Salam Siddique said that necessary legal action is being taken regarding the accident. Efforts are underway to identify the bus involved in the accident.
