Eati Akter : A protest march and human chain program rally was held in the capital’s Demra to prevent the spread of drug trade and consumption under the initiative of the Dharmik Para Madak Nirmul Committee. Local citizens, students and leaders of various social organizations observed.
The human chain was held in Ward No. 64 Dharmik Para on Friday, July 10 afternoon. Panchayat Committee President Sohrab Hossain Babu, Senior Vice President Md. Rafiqul Islam, Jatiyabadi Mohila Dal, Dhaka Metropolitan South Demra Police Station President Rina Yasmin, Vice President Farid Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary Md. Sirajul Mia, Organizing Secretary Md. Shahidul Islam were also present.
According to sources, including upcoming Dhaka City Corporation councilor candidate Md. Bazlur Rahman, Nurul Islam, Asutosh, Mostafa, for a long time, the locals have been fed up with the running of drug dealers and users in the Konapara Dharmik Para area. These drugs are being sold openly. As a result, various criminal activities including theft, robbery, and robbery have increased in the area. In this regard, the locals have been holding various meetings and seminars against drug dealers and drug users. Locals allege that drug dealers have become more reckless. Locals allege that even if drug dealers are caught and handed over to the police, the drug dealers are released after a while by an invisible force. The speakers at the human chain said that the youth society is on the path of destruction due to drugs. They demanded that drug dealers be brought under the law quickly and punished severely. The speakers also said that along with the administration, people from all classes and professions of the society must work together against drugs. Otherwise, the future generation will face extreme threat. The participants in the human chain urged the law enforcement agencies to conduct regular operations to eradicate drugs in the area.
In this regard, Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taifur Rahman Mirza said, giving a strict warning to drug dealers, Demra Police Station is taking a strict stance against drugs. We are working with zero tolerance. There is no exemption in this regard. If you need any information or information, immediate action will be taken.
