Mohammad Sohel, Cox’s Bazar : The Bangladesh Coast Guard has distributed relief supplies to 100 affected families as shipping links to Saint Martin Island were disrupted due to persistent bad weather and heavy rains.
The relief distribution program was conducted by Coast Guard Station St. Martin under the management of the Coast Guard East Zone on Friday (July 10) from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed this information on Friday afternoon.
He said that due to the disruption of maritime communication with Saint Martin due to heavy rains and adverse weather conditions for a week, many families on the island faced problems in collecting daily necessities. In such a situation, necessary relief items have been distributed among 100 affected families as part of humanitarian assistance.
He further said that since its establishment, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been ensuring public safety in the coastal and riverine areas of the country, as well as providing rescue operations and humanitarian assistance in natural disasters, adverse weather conditions and other critical situations.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said that Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and public welfare activities in times of disaster and crisis in the coastal areas in the future.
