An 8-month-old baby named Ayas died after falling into water on the floor of his house in Mymensingh. Baby Ayas was sleeping on the bed with his mother. The baby fell from the bed and fell into the water on the floor, causing serious injuries.
The incident took place in the city’s Brahmapalli area around 9:30 am on Wednesday (July 8). The child was rescued by relatives and admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later, the child died while undergoing treatment in ward number 31.
The deceased eight-month-old baby Ayas is the son of Abir Mia of the city’s Brahmapalli area.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Police Camp Md. Sujauddin confirmed the child’s death.
Heavy rain for eight and a half hours has caused severe waterlogging on various roads and low-lying areas of Mymensingh city. Since the early hours of the morning, many parts of the main roads, hospitals, alleys, markets, educational institutions and residential areas have been submerged under water. Office-going people, students, businessmen and ordinary pedestrians have been facing extreme hardship.
Knee-deep water has accumulated in various areas of the city including Sankipara, Akua, Golkibari, Balashpur, Charpara, Khagdahar, Ganginarpar, Notun Bazar, Zilla School More, Kewatkhali. The suffering has increased as water has risen in many residential houses. In many places, drains have overflowed and dirty water has come up on the roads, making movement more risky. In the past, similar rains have caused waterlogging in these areas.
Rumana Akhter, the aunt of the deceased child, said that it rained all night. The rain caused water to rise on the floor of Abir’s house. The child was sleeping with his mother at the time of the incident. Suddenly, the child rolled over and fell into the water accumulated on the floor and was seriously injured. Later, when he was admitted to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
SI Md. Shujauddin said that when the child was brought to the hospital around 10 am, the doctor on duty admitted him to ward number 31 of the hospital. The child died while undergoing treatment there. After the child died, the relatives rushed to take the child’s body from the hospital.
