A day-long practical training workshop on ‘Outcome-Based Education (OBE)-Based Questionnaire Development and Assessment Rubrics’ was held at International Standard University (ISU) with the aim of developing the skills to develop quality questionnaires and create effective assessment rubrics. The workshop, held at the conference room of the university’s Mohakhali campus on Tuesday, was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
The workshop, chaired by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Ekramul Haque, was attended by ISU Treasurer Professor H.T.M. Quader Newaz as the chief guest. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Chairperson of the Department of Textile Engineering Professor Md. Abul Kasem and Registrar Md. Faizullah Kaushik.
Professor H. T. M. Kader Newaz emphasized on regular training and skill development of teachers. He said that in this era of artificial intelligence, teachers need to acquire new knowledge and skills regularly to keep pace with technological changes. Formulation of standard question papers, modern evaluation methods and technology-based teaching play an important role in ensuring the quality of education. Such training will not only enhance the professional skills of teachers but also help in achieving academic excellence of the university.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor Md. Abul Kasem said that the quality of a question paper depends on how well it can assess the analytical and problem-solving skills of the students. Similarly, using assessment rubrics reduces individual dependence in evaluation and every student is evaluated on the same criteria. Therefore, such hands-on training is very timely for the successful implementation of OBE.
The day-long training workshop was conducted by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Ekramul Haque and IQAC Additional Director and Associate Professor of Business Administration Dr. Monirul Hasan Masum. They presented various techniques for preparing questionnaires according to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), determining the compatibility of questions with course learning outcomes, effective application of Bloom’s Taxonomy and formulation of assessment rubrics through practical examples and practical exercises. They said that teachers can make the assessment process more planned, transparent and result-based by applying these techniques in their respective courses.
Chairmen of various departments of the university, teachers and concerned officials participated in the workshop. The program concluded with lively discussions, exchange of views and practical exercises among the participants.
