Zorarganj Police Achieve Major Success: Over 50 Arrested with Massive Haul of Drugs and Smuggled Goods from May 1 to June 26

​Mirsarai Correspondent : ​The Zorarganj Police Station in Mirsarai Upazila, Chittagong, has achieved significant success over the past two months in suppressing crime, recovering narcotics, and maintaining law and order. During continuous special operations conducted from May 1, 2026, to June 26, 2026, a massive quantity of narcotics, stolen property, illegal weapons, and smuggled goods was seized. A total of 52 suspected criminals were arrested for their involvement in these crimes.
​According to data obtained from the police station regarding recoveries and arrests, at least 38 cases were registered and processed under the Narcotics Control Act, the Penal Code, and the Special Powers Act during this period in May and June.
​Record Haul of Yaba and Narcotics
​The most significant success of the operations came in the eradication of narcotics. On June 1, under Case No. 1, a black private car was intercepted, leading to a record recovery of 67,680 intact Yaba tablets and an additional 600 pieces of crushed Yaba powder. Furthermore, over the course of the two months, a total of more than 74,753 Yaba tablets were seized across various operations, including one major consignment found inside a luggage bag.
​Apart from Yaba, other narcotics seized during the operations include:
​Cannabis: A total of 82.2 kg of cannabis was recovered in various raids, which included a single major haul of 70 kg.
​Local Brew: Approximately 60 liters of locally made Choled (country liquor) were seized from various spots.
​Large Consignments of Contraband and Indian Sarees Seized
​In addition to narcotics, Zorarganj Police intercepted a large cache of smuggled Indian goods and cosmetics on June 24. Acting under the Special Powers Act, police searched a white HiAce microbus and recovered 150 jars of Horlicks, 56 pieces of Dairy Milk chocolate, 1,512 pieces of KitKat chocolate, 144 bottles of Navratna oil, and 32 pairs of sneakers. Most recently, on June 26, another raid led to the seizure of 180 Indian sarees. The process of filing a case regarding this latest seizure is currently underway.
​Robbery Foiled, Domestic Weapons Recovered
​On May 26, prompt police action under Case No. 27 foiled a robbery attempt. Police arrested three suspects from the scene and seized an array of weapons, including one iron rod, a 36-inch dagger, another smaller dagger, a curved machete (da), and two black flashlights. Two pickup vans used in the attempted robbery were also impounded.
​Stolen Vehicles and Property Recovered
​As part of the drive against property crimes, police recovered various stolen vehicles and items, including:
​1 dump truck
​1 stolen excavator
​1 stolen CNG-run autorickshaw
​1 disassembled/open transformer
​7 kg of stolen copper wire
​1 stolen water pump motor
​Police officials stated that these strict operations and vigilant efforts will continue in the future to keep the Zorarganj Police Station area safe, crime-free, and free from drugs and smuggling.
