Prime Minister leaves Dhaka for Malaysia

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has left Dhaka for Malaysia on an official visit at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur at 2:45 pm on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon gave this information.

He said, ‘Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is going to Malaysia on an official visit for the first time. The Prime Minister is accompanied by his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman.’

The Prime Minister was seen off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Chief Whip of the National Assembly Nurul Islam Moni, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli, Ambassadors of Malaysia and China and other senior government officials.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Foreign Employment Advisor Mahdi Amin, Defense Advisor AKM Shamsul Islam, among others.

After the Malaysian visit, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit China directly at the invitation of Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam held a press conference at the Foreign Ministry yesterday before the Prime Minister’s visit to these two countries (Malaysia and China).

He said that the labor market has been kept on the ‘number one agenda’ during the Prime Minister’s visit to Malaysia. There is a possibility of signing two documents on cultural exchange and a free trade agreement with Malaysia during this visit to Kuala Lumpur.

Highlighting the Prime Minister’s visit to Malaysia, Asad Alam Siam said that the Prime Minister will be formally welcomed in Malaysia on June 21, the first day of the visit. The next day, on June 22, the first private meeting between the Prime Ministers of the two countries will be held at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya, and later a bilateral meeting between high-level delegations led by the heads of government of both countries will be held.

The Foreign Secretary informed that during the Prime Minister’s visit, discussions will be held on establishing greater cooperation between the two countries in various fields including trade and investment expansion, energy cooperation, halal economy, worker remittances, semiconductor industry and agriculture, education and public relations.

He said that in particular, requests will be made for the recruitment of new Bangladeshi workers in various sectors in Malaysia and requests will be made for the welfare of Bangladeshis.

The Foreign Secretary said that during the visit to Malaysia, Bangladesh’s request to join ASEAN’s ‘Dialogue Partner and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership-RCEP’ will be strongly highlighted and Malaysia’s support will be sought.

After concluding his two-day visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave for Dalian, China with his entourage.

The Foreign Secretary said that according to the program, the Prime Minister will leave Kuala Lumpur for Dalian at noon on June 22 and arrive there in the evening.
