A special preparation meeting has been held in Mymensingh, which is synonymous with the memory of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, to celebrate the poet’s birth anniversary with due dignity. Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Minister of Cultural Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest at the meeting. Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Saifur Rahman presided over the program. In his speech as the chief guest, Nitai Roy Chowdhury said, Nazrul is not only the national poet of Bangladesh, he is a symbol of world humanity and equality. This land of Mymensingh holds many memories of Nazrul’s childhood and adolescence, so celebrating Nazrul Jayanti in this region is a special emotion and pride for us. He called on the young generation to come forward to build society and the state by embodying the non-communal spirit of poet Nazrul. The minister emphasized in his speech that the current government is determined to bring Nazrul’s literature and philosophy to the world and plans have been made to modernize and preserve the places associated with Nazrul’s memory in Mymensingh, including Trishal. He further mentioned that Nazrul’s ‘rebel’ nature teaches us to speak out against injustice and his music provides spiritual peace in our hearts. He directed the local administration to pay special attention to ensuring the participation of grassroots people in organizing this year’s Nazrul Jayanti. Trishal constituency MP Dr. Mahbubur Rahman MP, District Council Administrator and BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince and Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Farah Shammi NDC were present as special guests in the discussion meeting. In addition, local political leaders, officials from different levels of administration and journalists from print and electronic media participated in the meeting. The speakers shed light on Nazrul’s life and work and said that Nazrul’s literature is a priceless asset of the Bengali nation and his songs and poems have served as an inspiration for our liberation struggle. The meeting discussed in detail the preparations for colorful cultural programs and seminars, especially remembering the poet’s time spent in Darirampur and Shimla areas of Trishal. The president of the program, Deputy Commissioner Saifur Rahman, assured that all the programs of Nazrul Jayanti will be celebrated in a very orderly manner with maximum security from the administration. Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury finally declared the meeting over by calling on everyone to work together to implement Nazrul’s communist ideals.
