Like every year, this year too, “World Mother’s Day” was celebrated in Bangladesh like the rest of the world on May 10, 2026. In continuation of this, the special honoring ceremony of World Mother’s Day ‘Garbini Ma-2026’ was organized by the Universal Medical College Hospital in the capital for the thirteenth time. At the beginning of the ceremony, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of the death of the mother of the chief guest Social Welfare Minister Begum Jebunnesa and Garbini Ma Falguni Kundu. The event held at the Rawa Convention Center in Mohakhali in the capital was attended by the Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs MP. Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain,

In his speech as the chief guest, Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said, “Mother is the first shelter, first teacher and lifelong guide of a child. Her selfless love, sacrifice and silent service cannot be repaid with any gratitude. Our duty is only to cherish her with respect and compassion throughout our lives and like the mother, the children of the new generation in the coming days will also grow up to be good people and feel respected.” The minister said this in his speech as the chief guest at the ‘Mother’s Day 2026’ celebration organized by Universal Medical College Hospital in Dhaka today. The minister said that this effort to recognize the mothers whose tireless sacrifice, motivation and inspiration work behind successful personalities in various fields of society is undoubtedly commendable. By honoring mothers of children who have achieved success in various fields including law and order, administration, law and justice, medicine, engineering, journalism, acting, music, education and indomitable genius, we are not only celebrating their personal contributions, but also the glory of motherhood.
He said, in the current era, when family ties and values ​​are facing various challenges, such an event reminds us anew that the contribution of a mother is the foundation of building a healthy, humane and developed society. He expressed deep respect, love and gratitude to all mothers and wished the well-being of their children in building a beautiful Bangladesh together under the leadership of the current government, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The chief guest thanked the Universal Medical College Hospital authorities for providing advanced medical services as well as such a social event and called for maintaining this continuity.

The event was presided over by Preeti Chakraborty, Chairman of Universal Medical College Hospital and Senior Vice President of BCI, and Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, Managing Director of the hospital and the main organizer of the Garabini-Ma Sammanna, delivered the welcome speech. Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Member of Parliament for Narsingdi-5 (Raipura), was present as a special guest at the event.

Before the ceremony, each child expressed their feelings. Initially, 5 pregnant mothers were awarded this award, where the late renowned educationist and national professor Dr. Anisuzzaman was present as the chief guest. Last year, the 1st anniversary of this award was celebrated, this year the 13th edition of the Pregnant Mothers’ Award was celebrated. At the beginning of the ceremony, the pregnant mothers were given the Uttariya and medals by students and interns of different years of Universal Medical College and Universal Nursing College.

This time, 11 pregnant mothers of well-established citizens established in the society for their contribution in various fields have been awarded this award. They are – Begum Farhat Islam, mother of Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, Md. Fahimul Islam, in the administration category; Begum Rokeya Rashid, mother of Judge (Senior District and Sessions Judge) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Barisal, Md. Rakibul Islam, in the law and justice category; Mosa Razifa Azad, mother of Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police – Head of the Intelligence Branch (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam (DIG); Selima Haque, mother of Professor of the Department of Women and Gender Studies, Dhaka University, in the education category; A.K.M. Manjurul Islam’s mother Razia Ahmed, in the medical category, Professor Dr. Indrajit Prasad, Head of the Department of Endocrinology at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Saraswati Prasad, in the engineering category, Falguni Kundu, teacher of NorthSouth University – architect and design professional Amiti Kundu, in the music category, Saima Monir Minu, mother of Channel i-Serakanth 2009 champion and National Film Award winner renowned musician Somnur Monir Konal, in the acting (female) category, Syeda Sharmin, mother of renowned actress, musician and model and film star Tasnia Farin, in the acting (male) category, Fatema Akhter Kajal, mother of  chief coordinator of the Bipasha Majumder and Garvini Ma Awards – 2026 was the hospital’s Head of Brand C. F. Zaman.
