Police have recovered the hanging body of a seventh grade student in Keora Union of Jhalokati Sadar Upazila. The incident took place at Beldakhan village of the upazila around 3:30 pm on Monday. The deceased, Shampomati Akhter (13), is a seventh grade student of ‘Kirtipasha Prasanna Kumar Secondary School’ and the daughter of local Zakir Hossain.
According to family and local sources, after returning home from school, after taking a bath and eating, Shampomati had an argument with her mother about private lessons. At one stage, when her mother went elsewhere, Shampomati went to her room. Later, family members found her hanging. She was quickly rescued and taken to Jhalokati Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Jhalokati Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Imtiaz Ahmed said that the police visited the scene after receiving information. The body has been recovered and sent for autopsy. Initially, it is believed to be a suicide. Further legal action will be taken after the investigation.
