Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury inaugurates Archaeological Museum in Agargaon, Dhaka

Rajib Dey special correspondent : Today’s 23 April 2026 Minister of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Mr. Nitai Roy Chowdhury, M.P. today inaugurated the newly established ‘Archaeological Museum’ at the head office of the Department of Archaeology in Agargaon, Dhaka. After the inauguration, he met with the officers and employees in a special exchange of views in the conference room of the department.
​Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister said that the Archaeological Museum will play a unique role in presenting our rich history and heritage to the present generation. Priceless artifacts from the prehistoric period of Bangladesh to the Sultanate and Mughal periods are being skillfully displayed in this museum, which is a manifestation of our cultural glory.
​Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ms. Kaniz Maula, was present as a special guest at the ceremony. The function was presided over by Ms. Sabina Alam, Director General (Additional Secretary) of the Department of Archaeology.
​During the visit to the museum, the Minister inspected important artifacts collected from various places in the country including Mahasthangarh, Paharpur, Wari-Bateswar. The exhibition includes pottery, metal vessels, seals and terracotta balls from the 3rd century BC to the 12th century. In addition, various historical artifacts including the priceless ‘Vishnu’ statue of the 10th-11th century and the ‘Tara’ statue of the 8th-9th century have been opened for visitors.
​In the exchange of views, the Minister emphasized on increasing the dynamism of the work of the department and called upon all concerned to work more dedicatedly in protecting the country’s archaeological resources and research. Senior officials of the ministry and officials of various levels of the Department of Archaeology were present at the function.
