Md. Moniruzzaman:

A renowned scholar from Muktagachha once again reminded us how close death is to humans. Senior scholar Alhaj Hafez Qari Abdul Gani, who led the Imamate at Atani Bazar Jame Mosque in Muktagachha, Mymensingh for 45 years, is no more (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

He breathed his last at Muktagachha Upazila Health Complex at 9:10 am on Thursday (April 23).

His long Imamate life ended on Friday, April 17, making thousands of people cry. He was given a rare and emotional farewell reception. Organized by the mosque committee and the local people, that farewell was a unique expression of love and respect. Taking him home in a horse-drawn carriage decorated with flowers, giving him honors and gifts – all were royal arrangements. But no one thought that farewell would be the last farewell of his life. Hafez Qari Abdul Gani was not just an Imam, he was a spiritual guardian and guide of the people of the area. His recitation of the Quran in a melodious voice, deep devotion to religion and humble lifestyle have earned him a special place in the hearts of the people.
According to local sources, he spent most of his life leading the prayer at the Atanibazar Jame Mosque. He also served as the Sunni Imam for seven consecutive years at the Big Mosque. Along with his leadership, he also made important contributions to the spread of religious education. As a teacher at the Maltipur Pathalia Bagan Madrasa, he taught many students the Quran and Hadith.
A shadow of grief has fallen over the entire area after his death. People from different classes and professions have expressed deep grief, remembering his contribution. Many say that humble, God-fearing and simple people like him are becoming increasingly rare in society. His funeral prayers were held today after Asr at the local RK School grounds. His numerous well-wishers expressed their deep respect and condolences to him at the funeral.

Local Sajjad Hossain Sumon said, “I express my deep condolences to the bereaved family and the local people on the passing of this scholar who was engaged in the service of the Holy Quran throughout his life. I pray to Almighty Allah – may He accept all the services of Huzoor in his life, forgive his mistakes and grant him Jannatul Firdaus and grant the bereaved family the strength to endure.”
