Upazila Executive Officer Rifat R. Maury inspected the ground after receiving complaints of irregularities in the canal re-excavation project under LGED in Rajapur, Jhalakathi. Recently, allegations of irregularities in canal excavation were raised through a picture of the canal re-excavation on social media. However, the Upazila Executive Officer did not find a match with the allegations.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Upazila Executive Officer measured the re-excavated canal starting from the front of the Rari house in the Angaria area of Upajol with a tape measure from different places. At that time, due to the soft soil on the banks of the houses and the canal, he found 28-29 feet instead of 30 feet in two places. Which is not possible to cut with a hoe machine. The authorities said that workers will cut the soil according to the drawing in all those places. 24 lakh taka has been allocated for the re-excavation of about 14’00 meters of the canal under LGED.
Rajapur LGED Upazila Engineer Abhijit Majumdar and other concerned persons were present at the time.
Farmers and locals are happy with the re-excavation of this canal of public importance.
Upazila Executive Officer Rifat Ara Mauri spoke to reporters after inspecting the canal re-excavation. At that time, he said, we came here after receiving complaints of irregularities in the re-excavation of the canal. People from the Engineering Department are also with me. We brought tape here, what I saw manually and measured in different places was found according to the drawing design they showed. And in some places, it seems that there is excess, in this regard, they said that if we go to drive a excavator in those places where there is a little excess in the bends, there is a possibility of the bank completely breaking. This will be cleared manually later.
