England secures Super Eight of T20 World Cup

England secured the Super Eight of the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup with the great performance of the batters and bowlers. Today, two-time champions England defeated Italy by 24 runs in their fourth and final match in Group ‘C’. The English secured the Super Eight by being second in the table with 6 points from 4 matches, 3 wins and 1 loss. The West Indies have already secured the Super Eight by playing 3 matches from this group and being at the top of the table with full 6 points. Italy and Scotland were eliminated from the group stage with England’s victory.

After winning the toss at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, England elected to bat first and scored 105 runs for 5 wickets in 13 overs thanks to the short innings of the top-order batsmen.

During this, Tom Banton scored 30 off 21 balls, Phil Salt scored 28 off 15 balls and Jacob Bethell scored 23 off 20 balls.

Will Jacques laid the foundation for England’s big haul by adding 54 runs off 25 balls with Sam Curran and 35 runs off 16 balls with Jamie Overton for the sixth wicket.

Curran and Overton were out for 25 and 15 runs, but Jacques reached his first half-century in T20Is in 21 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. His impeccable innings of 53 runs off 22 balls helped England post 202 for 7 in 20 overs.

In reply, Italy lost 3 wickets for 22 runs and were under pressure at the start. Justin Mosca and Ben Manenti put on a 92-run stand for the fourth wicket in 48 balls.

Mosca was reduced to 43 off 34 balls, but Manenti played a blistering innings of 60 runs off 25 balls.

Italy were bowled out for 178 in 20 overs after Mosca and Manenti returned from a team score of 135. For England, Overton took 3 wickets for 18 runs and Curran took 3 wickets each for 22 runs. Jacks was named man of the match.
