A head-on collision between a Burimari commuter train and a Lalmoni Express occurred at Lalmonirhat Railway Station. Although no casualties were reported, train services on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat railway route have been suspended. The Lalmonirhat Railway Division has started work to repair the line, including recovering two derailed coaches.
The accident occurred at around 2 pm on Monday (July 28) in the workshed area adjacent to Lalmonirhat Railway Station.
Lalmonirhat Railway Division DME (Loco) Sajid Hasan Nirjhar confirmed this information.
According to the local and railway departments, the Lalmoni Express train, which left the capital, reached Lalmonirhat station late and disembarked the passengers. After that, the train was being taken to the workshed for cleaning. At that time, the Parbatipur-bound Burimari commuter train number 461, which left Burimari on the same line, was entering Lalmonirhat station. At that time, the two trains collided head-on. Two coaches of the empty Lalmoni Express train derailed. However, there were no reports of casualties, although there were passengers on the Burimari commuter.
Since the incident, all types of rail communication on the Lalmonirhat-Burimari rail route have been cut off. The Parbatipur-bound Burimari commuter train was stranded at the scene. The passengers of the train have suffered greatly.
RMB Benazir Ahmed, an officer of the Lalmonirhat Divisional Railway’s safety department, who was present at the scene, said that there were no casualties among the passengers. Rescue work has begun.
Sajid Hasan Nirjhar, of the DME (Loco) department of Lalmonirhat Railway, said that there were no casualties in the train accident. Rescue work is underway. If there is negligence on the part of anyone in charge, an investigation will be conducted and action will be taken.
