It was thought that the team would be announced by June 25. Because two practice matches were scheduled to be held in Chittagong tomorrow, June 23 and June 25. It seemed that after watching those 2 matches, the fitness and current performance of some of the cricketers would be thoroughly examined and then the team selection would be finalized.
But that is not happening anymore. The BCB has already officially announced that the team will be announced at 11 am on June 23. That means the team for the ODI series is over. The two practice matches are just preparatory matches. Not trial matches.
As far as it is known, there will be no new faces in the ODI squad. The selectors want to trust only those performers who have played for the national team in one-day cricket before.
However, there is also news of at least 2 cricketers returning to the team. One of them is Naeem Sheikh, the other is Nurul Hasan Sohan. If left-handed opener Naeem Sheikh enters the team, either left-handed openers Soumya Sarkar or Parvez Hossain Emon may have to withdraw from the team.
As already known, two senior cricketers Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad have retired after the Champions Trophy. So their place is also vacant. In that place, Nurul Hasan Sohan will enter as a middle-order batsman along with new captain Mehedi Hasan Miraj. And if Naim Sheikh comes to the team, it is very natural that one of the three left-handers Tanjid Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, and Parvez Emon will be out.
However, there is no doubt that Tanjid Tamim will be among these three. Soumya and Parvez Hossain Emon’s name may be cut. But since there are no two batters like Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah, it would not be surprising if all of them (Soumya, Tanjid Tamim, and Parvez Emon) are kept as extras.
Apart from this, the presence of Towhid Hridoy, Zaker Ali Anik, legspinner Rishad Hossain, pacer Mostafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, and Tanjim Shakib is also certain.
It is not certain whether Taskin will enter the team after recovering from injury or not. Taskin will definitely return to the team if he is fully fit. If he is unable to play, Hasan Mahmud may also be seen as the fourth pacer. And left-armer Nasum may again take his place in the spinner quota along with off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraj.
