Firoz Alom , Staff Reporter : A trawler named FB Raisa landed 200 maunds of hilsa in one haul from the Bay of Bengal. These fish were sold at 5.2 Crores taka at the BFDC Fisheries Landing Center in Patharghata, Barguna, at 26,000 taka per maund.
These fish were sold at a shop named Saif Fish at the BFDC Fisheries Landing Center on Wednesday (November 19) morning. The fish were caught in the sea 70 kilometers deep off Kuakata last Monday (November 17).
It has been learned that the fishing trawler named FB Raisa went to sea from Patharghata on November 14 with 17 fishermen. The fish were caught on the afternoon of November 17. The weight of these fish is 300/400 grams.
Trawler’s skipper Masud said, “On November 14, we went to sea to fish. We caught only 400 pieces of fish in three-four days. On the afternoon of November 17, after casting the net and waiting for some time, we saw hilsa and hilsa while pulling the net. Approximately 18,000 hilsa were caught in that one pull. We had been living a very difficult life without catching fish for a long time. We are very happy to have suddenly caught so many fish.”
Trawler owner Rubel said, “For a long time, very few fish have been caught in the sea. We were counting losses. By selling this fish, we can overcome some of the previous losses.”
Shopkeeper Mostafa Alam said, “The fish in my shop have been sold. A few days ago, I sold about 150 maunds of fish to another trawler. I am very happy to hear that the fishermen are getting fish.”
Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Trawler Owners Association, said, “We have not seen the desired Hilsa for a long time in our BFDC. We are also happy to have suddenly found 200 maunds of Hilsa in a trawler.”
