13 arrested from militant hideout in Moulvibazar: CTTC

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the police arrested 13 people, including a woman, in a raid on a militant hideout in the remote hilly area of Kulaura police station in Moulvibazar.

Mohammad Asaduzzaman, head of this unit of the police, told the media after the operation on Saturday (August 12) morning that the homes of the 10 people arrested are in different parts of the country. 10 men and women were arrested from the militant hideout. Among them 4 are men and 6 are women. There are also 3 children.

The 10 arrested are Shariful Islam (40) of Satkhira, Hafiz Ullah (25) of Kishoreganj, Khairul Islam (22) of Narayanganj, Rafiul Islam (22) of Sirajganj, Meghna (17) of Narayanganj, Abida of Narayanganj (12 months), Shapla Begum of Pabna ( 22), Zubeda (18 months), Huzaifa (6), Maisha Islam (20) of Natore, Mocha of Bogra. Sanjida Khatun (18), Amina Begum (40) of Satkhira and Mocha. Habiba Binte Shafiqul (20).

After the operation, Mohammad Asaduzzaman also said that we had information that a new extremist organization had trained many people. ‘Operation Hillside’ was launched based on information that they had built their hideout on any hill in Moulvibazar. One person was arrested in Dhaka. The man had gone to fetch his family from this militant hideout.

CTTC chief further said, we were able to arrest them. About 3 kg of explosives and about 50 detonators were recovered during the search.

He said, this is a new organization, the name is ‘Imam Mahmud’s caravan’. It is a new organization apart from the banned militant organizations in Bangladesh. The name of the main person of this organization is also known.
