National Insurance Day will be celebrated for the fourth time in the country on March 1. The day is jointly celebrated by the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance and the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA). Chairman of IDRA Mohammad Zainul Bari said in a press conference on Monday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Insurance Day event at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Agargaon on Wednesday. In this press conference at the IDRA office in Motijheel, he said that due to the epidemic, the day was celebrated on a limited scale for the last two years. This day will be celebrated in a big way. The government is celebrating National Insurance Day since 2020. On March 1, 1960, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman joined the then Alfa Insurance Company as the head of the region. Bangabandhu joined the insurance sector at a time when politics was banned. He traveled across the country as an insurance company employee. He took the opportunity to do politics under the guise of insurance work. That is why the government decided to celebrate Insurance Day on March 1. It was informed in the press conference that the number of insurance companies in the country is now 81 in 52 years of independence. Out of this, 35 are life insurance and 46 are non-life or general insurance.
