The court sentenced a man named Russel Mia (43) to death in the case of killing his wife after being angry at the divorce in Kasba of Brahmanbaria. Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Begum Sharmin Nigar gave this sentence on Monday (07 August) afternoon. He was also fined another 20,000 rupees. Son of Abu Taher of Bishnupur, Kuti Union, Kasba Upazila, Rasel District, sentenced to death. He has been on the run since the murder. Brahmanbaria Court Police Inspector Kazi Didarul Alam confirmed the verdict.
According to the investigation report and documents filed in the court, in 2013, Suma Akhter (25), the younger daughter of Kuddus Mia of Rampur in Kuti Union, was married to Russell Mia. Around 1 lakh 20 thousand goods along with an auto rickshaw and a gold chain weighing one cart are given at the time of marriage. A son was born in their family. Russell was repeatedly pressuring Suma to bring money from her father’s house. At various times between the two of them, there was discord, and Suma moved to his father’s house. Suma divorced Russell on May 31, 2015. Since then Russell was angry. On the evening of October 4, 2015, when he was going from one room to another after eating at his father’s house, Russell, who was coming from the east, stabbed Suma and ran away bleeding. When the family members rescued him and took him to the hospital, the doctor declared Suma dead. But before he died, Suma named Russell as the attacker. The day after this incident, Suma’s father became the plaintiff and filed a murder case in Kasba police station. Belal Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, found Russell guilty in December of the same year after two months and submitted the investigation report to the court.
According to the investigation report, Russell killed Suma after getting angry at the divorce. After proving all the evidence, Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Sharmin Nigar sentenced Russell to death and fined Tk 20,000 on Monday (August 7). However, since Russell has been on the run since the murder, there was no lawyer for the accused except for the state’s lawyer in the court.
