On Monday, May 5, at 11:00 pm, tea shop owner Md. Badal Khan (45) hacked his wife and mother-in-law to death in the Khan house adjacent to Sufi Saheb’s Madrasa in Ward No. 01 of Dhawa Union under Bhandaria Upazila of Pirojpur district and set the house on fire before fleeing.
Bhandaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahmed Anwar confirmed the matter.
The deceased are Badal’s wife Champa Begum (32) and mother-in-law Bilkis Begum Bilu (50). The accused Md. Badal Khan is the son of the deceased Aziz Khan of Dhawa village in the upazila. He owns a tea shop in the local Dhawa market.
According to local sources, Badal Khan’s fourth wife is Champa Begum. His second wife has two children. Badal killed his wife Champa and mother-in-law and set the house on fire yesterday (May 5) night. At the time of the incident, Champa’s son Md. Yasin Khan (10) ran away from the house and informed the neighboring house. Then the locals came and extinguished the fire in the house. Then Badal ran away after sensing the presence of the locals.
Local Nasima Begum said, Champa’s son ran to our house and said that aunt and grandmother were throwing firecrackers at him. I ran to see Champa’s chest burning. There was a bucket of water nearby so I poured it on him and put out the fire. Badal ran away when he saw us.
In this regard, Bhandaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahmed Anwar said, “We have recovered the body from the scene and sent it for autopsy. The cause of the murder is not yet known immediately.”
In order to unravel the main mystery of the incident as soon as possible, Pirojpur District Superintendent of Police Khan Muhammad Abu Naser visited the scene on Tuesday, April 6, 2025 at 8:30 am. During this time, he spoke to the people of the area and the relatives of the victim. He immediately instructed the Bhandaria Police Station to unravel the mystery of the murder and quickly identify the criminals and assured that legal action would be taken against those involved in the incident after conducting a fair and impartial investigation.
