A cyclone has formed in the Bay of Bengal. Due to this there is low pressure in West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand. As a result, the sky is heavy in the entire state since Saturday (August 24) morning. It is expected to rain again in North Bengal including Kolkata. Light to moderate rain with thundershowers is forecast over West Bengal for the next three-four days.
Kolkata’s Alipore Meteorological Department said that rain will increase in several districts of South Bengal and North Bengal of Kolkata. At present low pressure is located in Bangladesh. It is slowly moving towards the west. This depression will move over West Bengal towards Jharkhand.
Meteorological Department official Somnath Dutta said heavy rain is likely. There is a possibility of heavy rain in the districts of South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, West Medinipur, East Medinipur, West Burdwan, East Burdwan, Bankura.
On Saturday (August 24) and Sunday (August 25), fishermen have been banned from fishing in the deep sea. Fishermen who went deep sea fishing are requested to return.
Already due to the weather, fish trawlers have started crowding the fishing harbors at Kakdwip Patharpratima Namkhana and Fraserganj.
The sea will be rough on Sunday (August 25). Fishermen suffer a lot due to sudden bad weather. During this time, due to the rains, there is a high chance of finding hilsa fish in the deep sea along with other fish.
Due to rains for the last two days, the temperature has dropped slightly in several districts of West Bengal. The minimum temperature in Kolkata was 25.5 degrees Celsius which was 1.1 degrees below normal. Besides, the maximum temperature was recorded at 30 degrees Celsius. The water vapor content in the air was 94 to 97 percent.
In North Bengal only Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong are likely to receive heavy rainfall. As a result, it is feared that flood situation may arise in North Bengal.
