The company’s officers and employees are protesting to demand the return of the jobs of the top five dismissed officers of Sonali Life Insurance, the resignation of the Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority and the administrator of Sonali Life.
They started the movement from Tuesday (July 9) morning. The normal operations of the company have come to a standstill.
The agitators say that the agitation will continue until the demands are met.
Before this, on Sunday, the top five officials of the company were dismissed by the administrator, Brigadier General (retd.) SM Ferdous. Various charges including financial irregularities, breach of discipline, certificate forgery were brought against them.
Reign of terror has been established in Sonali Life Insurance. The administrator appointed by the regulatory body Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority, IDRA is finalizing all preparations to convert the institution into a mini cantonment. Retired Brigadier General SM Ferdous, the administrator who disbanded the board of directors on allegations of corruption and irregularities, has been busy spreading fear among everyone with one controversial decision after another. After taking charge in the last week of April, starting from withholding the commission money of about 27 thousand insurance workers across the country, after that, threatening to file a lawsuit against the dedicated workers of various departments including IT, verbally issuing show cause notices to the officials, breaking all the customs of the past. 5 lakh salary, plus 3 lakh more as bonus, employment of retired army officer as DMD without advertisement in newspapers, withholding of June salary of 17 top executives and 33 drivers, 2 lakhs on an average of 2 lakh to his former colleagues in the army, including those appointed as DMDs After 1 month of appointment at Sonali Life, the administrator went beyond the rules and gave festive allowance, he ordered to demolish the canteen set up to provide subsidized food to the low-paid employees and house armed Ansars, 2 Ansars in the accommodation built to accommodate executives and branch managers from all over the country. And he arranged for the administrator’s personal security guard.
He dismissed the top 5 executives of Sonali Life Insurance along with Deputy Managing Director Rafiqul Islam on Sunday 7th June. The administrator, retired Brigadier General SM Ferdous, issued a show-cause notice to the 5 officials on June 25 for writing to the Minister of State for Finance seeking redress and destroying Sonali Life by interfering beyond his jurisdiction.
