Bijoynagar (Brahmanbaria) Correspondent:
The suffering has become extreme due to the slow pace of unplanned construction of drains in front of the main gate of Bijoynagar Upazila Parishad and inside the Upazila Complex.
The drain, built at a cost of 663,261 taka in front of and inside the main gate of Bijoynagar Upazila Complex, is 219 feet 9 inches long and 3 feet 2 inches wide. The work is being carried out by a contracting company named Mayer Charan Enterprise.
This suffering is due to the fact that the entire area was dug up and left empty for the construction of a drain from the main gate of the upazila complex to the model mosque on the south side 15 days ago. No one is able to enter the upazila complex with any type of vehicle. This has increased the suffering of the elderly and the disabled several times.
The contractor has been diligently working by placing a 5-inch wooden barrier over the excavated drain at a public place like the main gate of the upazila complex.
Rahima Begum, Shafiq Mia, Aminul Islam and several service recipients at Bijoynagar Upazila Complex said that the road has become so risky that hundreds of people like us risk their lives to travel in the rain and could be victims of a major accident at any time.
Md. Jahangir Alam, owner of Mayer Charan Enterprise, said that the work on the main gate is being delayed due to the work being done from the south. Initiatives will be taken to make it suitable for people to move quickly.
Upazila Engineer Md. Ashiqur Rahman Bhuiyan said that this inconvenience has been caused because the contractor, without consulting us, first dug the soil at the main gate and started work at the model mosque site on the opposite side. The contractor has been instructed to resolve the issue quickly.
