Two separate cases have been filed in Rajbari’s Pangsha Upazila on charges of raping two schoolgirls on their way home from private school. Within 24 hours of the case, the Pangsha Model Police Station arrested the accused Sihab Mandal and Hasmat Ali and sent them to jail through the court. In protest of this incident, a huge human chain and protest program was held in Hatbangram Bazar area on Tuesday (June 17) afternoon under the banner of teachers and students of Atarunnesa Girls High School. Hundreds of local men and women, teachers and students and conscious people of the area participated in it.
The speakers at the human chain demanded immediate exemplary punishment and that those who aided such criminals be brought to justice. The entire area erupted in slogans like ‘No more crying of my sister’ and ‘I want the rapist to be hanged’.
Hatbangram High School headmaster Sarjit Biswas, Atarunnesa Girls’ School headmaster Aminul Islam Dablu, Rajbari District Chhatra Dal leader Sajeeb Raja, school teacher Maulana Abdul Majed, Palli Rani Sarkar, Chhatra Dal leader Mahbub Hossain and others spoke at the human chain. According to the complaint, the incident took place at Nowra Bongram in Sarisha Union of the upazila around 11 am on Sunday (June 15). The two victims are students of class eight of Atarunnesa Girls’ High School.
According to the victims, while they were returning home after private lessons, accused Sihab and Hasmat Ali blocked their way, took out a blade from their pocket and threatened them, and took them to a nearby paan barge and raped them in turns. They also threatened to kill them if they reported the incident.
In this regard, Pangsha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Salauddin said, “Immediately after the incident, two rape cases were registered at the police station. Both the accused have been arrested and sent to court.”
