Two-day training on village courts completed in Charfassion

A two-day training was held in Charfassion  Upazila of Bhola to activate and strengthen the village courts.The two-day training workshop, organized by the Ministry of Local Government and the Upazila Administration at the Charfassion  Officers Club and the Upazila Parishad meeting room, was completed on Thursday (May 22) at 11 am.

UP members of 21 unions of the upazila participated in the training. The training covered various topics including village court activities, law and order, women and child rights, criminal and civil cases including theft, quarrels, fights, property seizure and recovery of due money, arrears of maintenance by the wife, settlement of criminal and civil dispute cases up to three lakh taka in the village court, etc.

It is reported that, with the aim of increasing the awareness and skills of UP members of 21 unions of Charfassion upazila. about the village courts and the judicial process, a two-day workshop was organized at the Charfassion Officers Club and the Upazila Parishad meeting room under the Ministry of Local Government and with the financial and technical assistance of the European Union and UNDP.

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rasna Sharmin Mithi was present as the chief guest at the training workshop.

Social Service Officer Md. Mamun Hossain, Youth Development Officer Md. TSM Fida Hasan and others were present as special guests. In addition, the Upazila Coordinator of the Village Court, Riaz Morshed, was also present.

After the training, Upazila Executive Officer Rasna Sharmin Mithi said, “It is possible to resolve disputes at the local level through the village courts by saving time and money. However, it is important for the judges to play a neutral and transparent role. The active participation of UP members will ensure the success of the village courts.”

UP members who participated in the training gained a deep understanding of the village court and were committed to its implementation at the local level.
