Two separate murder cases have been registered in Kushtia in connection with the killing of students during the anti-discrimination movement. In one case, Awami League joint general secretary and former member of parliament from Kushtia-3 Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif and in another case, city Awami League general secretary Sadar Upazila Parishad chairman Ataur Rahman Ata has been made the main accused. The victims of the two cases are Abdullah (13) son of Lukman Hossain of Thanapara area of ​​Kushtia city and Babu (32) son of deceased Nowsher Ali of Shaldah village of Hatsh Haripur union of Sadar upazila. Abdullah worked with his father in a tea shop located in front of the city’s fire department. And Babu was a gold merchant. According to the statement, on the afternoon of August 5, during the students’ agitation, bricks were hurled at them, besides hitting them with indigenous weapons. Later they were reportedly fired upon. When the two were taken to the hospital with bullet wounds, the doctor on duty declared them dead. Babu was involved in the anti-discrimination student movement. Lokman, the father of the deceased Abdullah, filed the case as a plaintiff and Raisul Haque, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and a third-year degree student of Kushtia Government College, filed a murder case at the Kushtia Model Police Station on Thursday, August 15, on behalf of the deceased Babu.
