Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said, “The country has sufficient stock of animals for sacrifice. There is no need for cows from neighboring countries. Law enforcement agencies are keeping a close watch to ensure that cows from neighboring countries do not enter through the border areas illegally.”
The advisor made these remarks after visiting the livestock market at the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute grounds in Tejgaon, the capital, on Tuesday afternoon, June 3.
The livestock advisor said that veterinary doctors from the Department of Fisheries and Livestock are monitoring the markets across the country round the clock. Traders have been asked to refrain from fattening cows. He also commented that the overall management of the capital’s livestock markets is quite good.
Earlier in the morning, Advisor Farida Akhtar participated in a discussion on the implementation of treatment and monitoring by the veterinary medical team at the KIB auditorium in Khamarbari. Speaking as the chief guest, the advisor said, “By sacrifice, we mean slaughtering cows and goats. But deep down, there is the story of the sacrifice of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). Let us not forget the greatness of sacrifice on Eid al-Adha.”
At this time, the Director General of the Department of Livestock, Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, presided over the program, and the Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project, Dr. Md. Jasim Uddin, delivered a welcome speech. Director (Administration) of the Department of Livestock, Dr. Md. Boyzar Rahman, Director (Production) Dr. A. B. M. Khaleduzzaman, Director (Artificial Reproduction) Md. Shahzaman Khan, along with senior officials of the department, veterinary doctors, intern veterinary doctors of various universities, and senior officials of the government and private sectors were present at the time.
