The students of English department formed a human chain to demand justice for the killers of Shaheed Bir Abu Saeed at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.
On Saturday 18 August at 11 am, the students of the English Department formed a human chain in front of Kavi Hayat Mamud Bhavan. The students present in the human chain said that our hall has been opened from today. Class has started. But we cannot stand on the blood of Shaheed Abu Saeed Bhai. We will not hold classes until the murderers involved in the murder of Abu Saeed, a 12th batch student of English Department of Begum Rokeya University, who is the coordinator of quota reform movement in Rangpur, are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, a month after Shaheed Abu Saeed was shot dead by the police, the murder case has been filed against 17 people. In this case, 2 officers of Rangpur Metropolitan Police along with other police officers, teachers and staff of Begum Rokeya University, leaders and activists of Berobi Chhatra League and 30/35 unknown people have been accused.
Abu Saeed’s elder brother Ramzan Ali filed a case in the Rangpur Chief Judicial Court around 11:30 am on Saturday. Court judge Raju Ahmed Babu directed the Tajhat police station to take the case as an affidavit.
The names of the accused in the case are ASI Amir Ali, Constable Sujan Chandra Roy, President of Berobi Branch Chhatra League Pomel Barua, Assistant Commissioner of Police of Kotwali Zone Mohammad Arifuzzaman, Assistant Commissioner of Parashuram Zone Al Imran Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abu Maruf Hossain, University Proctor Office Officer Rafiul Hasan Russell, Mathematics Department Associate Professor Moshiur Rahman, Public Administration Department Associate Professor Asaduzzaman Mondal, University Camp In-Charge SI Bibhutibhushan, Tajhat Police Station OC Rabiul Islam, Berobi Branch Chhatra League Organizing Secretary Dhanjoy Kumar Togar, Office Secretary Babul Hossain, General Editor Shamim Mahfuz, former Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Mohammad Moniruzzaman, former DIG of Rangpur Range. Abdul Baten, former IGP of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Mamun and 150 other unidentified people.
Advocate Rayhanuzzaman, the plaintiff’s lawyer, said that 17 people involved in the murder of university student Abu Saeed have been named in the statement and 30-35 others have been named as defendants. The court ordered the Metropolitan Tajhat Police Station to be taken as a ‘treat for disclosure’. The police can arrest the accused at any time. However, since a case has been filed against the police, the court has been informed for a judicial inquiry, he said.
