The government has started buying paddy from farmers in Akhaura of Brahmanbaria. 10 tonnes of paddy was bought from four farmers in the inaugural paddy buying ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Angyajai Marma was the chief guest at the ceremony of buying paddy from farmers at the Upazila Parishad square. Upazila Agriculture Officer Shahana Begum, Upazila Food Controller Kaushar Sajib, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Tapas Kumar Chakraborty, Acting Food Warehouse Officer Najmunnahar and others were present in the opening ceremony. Agriculture office sources said that the price of paddy per kg has been fixed at Tk 30. A farmer can sell a maximum of three tonnes of paddy. Paddy collection campaign will continue till August 31. This year, the target of buying paddy has been set at 466 tons. Any farmer can sell paddy at government price. Farmer md. Ferdous, Md. Salim, Md. Dinat, Ahmed Hossain Chowdhury said, this time the donation has yielded good results. They are quite happy to sell rice to the government.
