A new committee of South Surma Football Academy, Sylhet, a voluntary organization that provides long-term basic, secondary and higher training through a scientific-based process of searching for and selecting potential and talented young football players, has been formed. The committee was formed unanimously at a general meeting of the organization held recently under the chairmanship of the founder and current president of the academy, Md. Akkas Uddin Akkai, and the moderatorship of General Secretary Gias Uddin Gias.
A 17-member committee was formed for a 4-year term (2025-2029) with lifelong member of South Surma Upazila Press Club, Sylhet, acting president of Lawai Sporting Club, young social worker and education enthusiast Rotarian Russell Mahbub PHF MC as the president and former district football team’s accomplished player, General Secretary of Sonali Atit Club, Sylhet, Md. Nasir Uddin as the general secretary.
The other members of the committee are Vice President Gias Uddin Gias, Riaz Uddin Helal and Abdul Khaliq, Vice General Secretary Shamim Ahmed, Organizing Secretary Hasan Uddin, Finance Secretary Murshed Sami, Publicity Secretary Mohammad Amit, Sports Secretary Ujjal Ahmed, International Affairs Secretary Subel Ahmed, and Abdal Mia, Kamrul Hasan, Shafi Ahmed, Ismail Abdullah Shihab, Shaheen Ali and Antar Ahmed were made executive members.
It is worth noting that the founder and current president of the academy, Md. Akkas Uddin Akkai, is leaving for the United States on Wednesday, June 4, to live with his family permanently. This is the main reason for the hasty formation of the committee, said the concerned people.
