Sonaimuri (Noakhali) Correspondent: Sonaimuri Police have recovered a melted body from a pond near the Barman house of Joyag UP, south of the Sonaimuri-Ramganj road. On Monday (19 May 2025) at 3 pm, the melted body was recovered from a pond in Abdul Awal’s place, east of the Barman house of Joyag village, ward no. 1 of Joyag UP in the upazila, and in the same area adjacent to the Sonaimuri-Ramganj paved road. The deceased, Rahed, is the son of Yusuf Kamal of Dakshin Kalikapur village of Ramchar union No. 06 in the neighboring Laxmipur district. According to local and police sources, on Monday around 2 pm, Jewel Chandra Barman (30), son of Khokon Chandra of the Barman family, went to release fish fry near the pond. When he noticed a rotten smell coming from the neighboring pond, Jewel Chandra stood a little further on the bank of the pond and saw a rotten and smelly body with a black pair of pants and a towel wrapped around his waist in the middle of the pond. He immediately screamed and informed his elder brother Suman Barman about the matter. Suman Barman immediately informed the local ward member Harunur Rashid about the matter, who informed the Sonaimur police station. The police recovered the decomposed body. At that time, after receiving information from each other, Yusuf Kamal (55) of Dakshin Kalikapur village of Ramchar union in Ramganj police station area of ​​neighboring Lakshmipur district along with some of his relatives reached the spot and identified the decomposed body as that of his son Rahed Hossain (18) by looking at the pants, waist belt and old towel worn by the body. He also said that his son Rahed used to earn a living by driving an auto rickshaw. Since Rahed had been missing since the night of May 2, 2025, he could not be found despite searching in various areas. We came to the spot after hearing the news of the body. Also, according to a local source, the Sonaimuri Police Station recovered an abandoned auto-rickshaw without a battery 8/9 days ago west of Jayag Bazar. Locals believe that the criminals from the crime zone killed Rahed and dumped his body here due to a previous enmity or after witnessing some serious local crime. Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Morshed Alam said that the police sent the body to the Noakhali General Hospital morgue for a preliminary report and autopsy. The cause of death will be known after receiving the autopsy report.
