Muhammad Anwar Pasha, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development and ICT) of Chittagong Division and Joint Secretary to Govt., visited the ancestral home of famous music artiste Sachin Devabarman. On Wednesday afternoon, he paid a surprise visit to artist Sachin Devavarman’s ancestral house located in North Chartha of Comilla city. Comilla District Administration Local Government Department Deputy Director Aparna Vaidya, Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kaniz Fatema, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Moushumi Akhtar, Heritage Comilla Director Jahangir Alam Imrul, Chittagong’s eminent musician Rajib Das along with Divisional Commissioner’s Office, District Administration and Upazila administration officials were present. Meanwhile, he visited different parts of the house. After the visit, the Additional Divisional Commissioner said, Sachin Devavarman is the shining music star of the subcontinent. His memorial house in Comilla was once known as a chicken farm. It has been rescued by administrative initiative. Hope district administration, archeology department will take appropriate action here. Eminent artist Sachin Devavarman’s building as a monument of heritage and development of art, literature, culture and music will make it the heart of Greater Comilla and a cradle of Bangladesh in the future. He said, the district administration is working on this house. He also said that necessary cooperation will be provided from the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner’s office to the district administration and archeology department for proper preservation by changing the records of the house. Music artist Sachin Devavarman was born on October 1, 1906 in Comilla’s Chartha in this house of Tripura’s royal family. Later, Sachin settled permanently in Bombay, India. After that, this house was abandoned for a long time. The government of Pakistan has built a public poultry farm in a large part of the country. This historical building has been demanding for a long time by various socio-cultural organizations and cultural activists, including Heritage Comilla, to free the poultry farm and convert it into a cultural complex. In this context, in 2014, when a report of Machranga Television was aired, it came to the attention of the authorities. At the initiative of the then Deputy Commissioner Tofazzal Hossain Miah, Hasanuzzaman Kallol, the Comilla District Administration freed a part of the house and renovated the poultry farm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the reform work that year. Later, Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam and Deputy Commissioner Abul Fazal Mir started the Sachin Mela here. Artist Sachin Devavarman died of cancer on 31 October 1975 in Mumbai, India.
