The victim’s family is living in fear as the terrorists who attacked Biplob, a well-known businessman of Kartimari Bazar in Jadurchar Union of Roumari Upazila of Kurigram district, have not been arrested even after 23 days.
According to the complaint, due to past enmity, Nurunnabi, son of Chukku Mia of Akandapara village of Jadurchar in the upazila, and Abu Sayem, son of Syed Ali of Chaktabari village, planned an ambush on Biplob at night on May 10. Thinking him dead, the terrorists left Biplob tied up near the Chaktabari Bhasha Sainik Gate and fled. Later, the police came and rescued Biplob and admitted him to Roumari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
According to the case report, Nurunnabi, son of Chukku Mia of Jadurchar (Akandapara) village of the upazila, and Abu Sayem, son of Syed Ali of Chaktabari village, had been collecting money from drug dealers in the area for a long time as shelter donors. Bulbul Ahmed Biplob became a black man because he spoke against Nurunnabi and Abu Sayem. On 9 May at around 9:30 pm, drug lord Nurunnabi called Biplob and took him to a hotel in Kartimari Bazar. When Biplob went to the hotel, he saw Abu Sayem sitting in the hotel. The two of them asked Biplob why the police had handed over the drug dealers. Biplob protested and left the scene and went to his shop. He informed his family and relatives about the incident. On 10 May at around 10:30 pm, Nurunnabi openly went to Biplob’s shop and threatened to kidnap Biplob. It was a little late to close Biplob’s shop because goods were coming from Dhaka. After receiving the goods, at 12:50 am on 11 May some terrorists including Nurunnabi and Abu Sayem blocked the road and ambushed Biplob. They also snatched 62,000 taka from Biplob’s wallet. The terrorists left Biplob with his hands and feet tied near the Chaktabari Bhasha Sainik Gate, thinking him dead, and fled. Later, the police came and rescued Biplob and admitted him to the Roumari Upazila Health Complex. After giving him primary treatment, he did not regain consciousness and was referred to Mymensingh Medical College for advanced treatment. Biplob regained consciousness around 5:30 pm on 12 May 2025. Biplob’s brother-in-law Kamruzzaman Babu filed a case with the police station, accusing the two. The plaintiff is disappointed that no accused has been arrested in that case. The victim’s family has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused named in the complaint related to this incident.
