‘Red alert’ in 9 Indian states including Tripura due to heavy rains

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in various states of India due to the threat of heavy to very heavy rains. Tripura is also in this list. Recent record rainfall in this bordering Indian state has worsened the flood situation in neighboring Bangladesh following the opening of dams.

On Sunday (August 25), the Indian news outlet Outlook India reported that the IMD has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rains in various states of India. In particular, heavy rainfall is forecast in the western and central parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

The states in which the IMD has issued red alert include Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Besides, orange alert has been issued in Odisha, West Bengal, Karnataka and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the IMD has maintained a red alert in South Tripura district and an orange alert in Dhalai and Gomti districts in anticipation of more rain in Tripura, Hindustan Times reported.
