Thousands of people of 5 villages are facing endless suffering due to the lack of a bridge on the Moishkum-Dakbhanga road at the junction of Kawarkhop and Kachhapia Unions of Ramu Upazila under Cox’s Bazar District. A paved bridge was constructed at the site in 2008 for traffic. But the bridge collapsed in 2012 due to construction irregularities. Later the villagers made a wooden bridge on their own initiative and started moving with risk. After a few years, the wooden bridge also fell into disrepair. Due to this, the people of 5 nearby villages are suffering from extreme hardships. When the rainy season comes, students studying in schools, colleges, madrasas stop going to educational institutions. In the past, there have been casualties while crossing this wooden bridge with risk. Not only the bridge, but the road system on both sides of the Jaruliachhari ridge is more fragile. The residents of this place have to travel through the dirt road for ages. Residents of Dakbhanga village of Kachhpia union said that the road is hundred years old. But there is no touch of development.
Tens of thousands of people from 500 families of the villages of Moishkum in Kawarkhop Union, Shibatali, Dakbhanga, Fakinnirchar, Char in the town of Kachhpia traveled through the road. These include hundreds of students who commute to various schools, colleges and madrasas, including Dakbhanga Primary School, Moishkum Osman Sarwar Primary School, Kawarkhop Hakim Rakima High School. Due to the lack of a bridge for a long time, the students here are also suffering from traffic problems. Sick people have to face indescribable hardships in going to and from hospitals or doctors. If it rains a little, the rhyme becomes monotonous in water. Then public movement becomes difficult. As a result, the people of these agriculturally rich villages cannot even buy agricultural products in the market. The permanent residents of Shibatali village said that during the monsoon season, there have been cases of death by falling into water while crossing the dilapidated wooden bridge. Many students fell and got injured, books and notebooks were washed away.
The villagers built the wooden bridge just for the students to continue their studies. A few years ago the wooden bridge collapsed. The residents of the village repeatedly appealed to the concerned administration offices and public representatives for a sustainable bridge and road reform, but there was no success. As a result, there is anger and frustration among the residents of the village.
Chairman of Kawarkhop Union Parishad, Shamsul Alam said, the bridge built on the border of Kachpia Union in Moishkum village of Ward No. 4 of Kawarkhop Union collapsed 11 years ago. Later the wooden bridge made by the villagers was also broken. Because of this, the people here are currently suffering. He also said that a bridge construction project is under process for tender under the initiative of Ramu Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). It may not be possible to start the work before the rainy season. For this reason, he will construct a wooden bridge for the movement of the people of the area during the monsoon season.
Government Engineering Department (LGED) Ramu Upazila Engineer Manjur Hasan Bhuiya said that Ramu Upazila Parishad Chairman Sohel Sarwar Kajal applied to the chief engineer of LGED to build a new bridge here. . In view of this, I asked him for information about this bridge from the headquarters of LGED. The required information was sent last February. He expressed hope that soon the construction project of the bridge will be approved and work will start.
