Md. Milan Raihan, Joypurhat Correspondent: 31 May 2025 A rally and discussion meeting was held in Joypurhat on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2025 with the theme ‘Exposing the tricks of tobacco companies, building a tobacco and nicotine-free Bangladesh’.
The discussion meeting was organized by the District Administration and the District Tobacco Control Act Implementation Task Force Committee in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on Saturday morning. Later, a rally started from the DC premises and ended at the same place.
Joypurhat Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhter Chowdhury delivered the speech as the chief guest under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate Mohaimena Sharmin.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bipul Kumar, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rashedul Islam, Joypurhat District BNP Convener Golzar Hossain, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the District Administration Abdur Rouf, Tanvirul Alam, Mahbubul Haque, Education and Health Officer of the Civil Surgeon’s Office Chaiti Roy, Senior Vice President of Joypurhat Press Club Mashrequl Alam, NGO representative Sujan Kumar Mondal and others spoke as special guests.
An essay competition was organized on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. About 50 students from different schools participated. The first, second and third place winners were awarded. The first place winner received 5 thousand taka, the second place 4 thousand taka and the third place 3 thousand taka. Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhter Chowdhury presented the prize.
