Two motorcyclists were killed in a sand-laden drum truck accident in Pansha, Rajbari. The truck and driver fled the scene. The incident took place at Nawapara on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway in the upazila at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday (May 21).
The deceased were identified as Md. Korban Sheikh (55) of Kamalapur area of Khoksha municipality in Kushtia and Ashok Kumar Roy (60) of Khoksha municipality. Both of them were jewelers and were returning home after working at a moneylender’s shop in Pansha.
Md. Bakul Hossain, a neighbor of the deceased, said that in the morning, Korban Sheikh and Ashok Roy went to Pansha on a motorcycle to work at a moneylender’s shop. On their way home, two of them were hit by a sand-laden drum truck that had left from Kushtia when they reached Naopara area before the Machpara bus stand. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Pangsha Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
In this regard, Pangsha Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Salauddin said two people were killed in the sand-laden drum truck accident. The truck and its driver fled. The operation to arrest the truck and its driver is ongoing. The motorcycle involved in the accident has been recovered and brought to the police station.
