Titus Gas Authority has claimed that the problem of the smell of gas that spread in different areas of the capital on Monday night has been solved. Several officials of Titus confirmed this  on Tuesday morning. Titus claimed that the company’s emergency and technical team solved the problem at night. Now there is no smell of gas anywhere. Titus Gas Deputy General Manager (DGM) Shakhawat Hossain told this morning that the problem caused due to over-flow of gas pressure in transmission and distribution lines has been resolved. When asked why the gas pressure increased, Shakhawat Hossain said that the explanation given by the ministry was the reason for the gas spread. Apart from this, the system operation department can tell you the details. Earlier last night, the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources stated the reason for the spread of gas smell. In a Facebook post after 12 midnight, the ministry said, “As the gas supply to the industrial plant was stopped on Eid, the gas pressure increased in the transmission and distribution lines (over-flow) and the smell is coming out.” Advising the city residents not to panic, the ministry said, “Titas’ emergency and technical team is working on the matter.” The post mentioned Titas Gas hotline number 16496.

Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid shared this Facebook post of the ministry on his Facebook account. He also requested the people of the city not to panic. In that Facebook post, the state minister wrote, ‘The news of smelling gas in several places in Dhaka has raised concern among the citizens. City dwellers are requested not to panic. Dhaka’s gas distribution company Titus Gas Authority has already taken the necessary steps. The situation is under complete control. However, when the state minister made this Facebook post after 12 midnight, the smell of gas was still felt in different areas. Earlier, after 11 pm, there were reports of the smell of gas spreading from different areas of the capital. Residents of Moghbazar, Iskaton, Rampura, Mohakhali, Purba Rajabazar, Crescent Road, Bashundhara residential area, Badda, Mugda and Hazaribagh reported the smell of gas spreading in the area. It is advised not to light gas stoves and not to light deslai by announcing on microphones from mosques in different areas. The news of the gas leak first came from mugda and  Rampura. When the local residents called the National Emergency Service number 999 and reported the matter, the police went to the spot. The smell of gas can be found in the streets of Rampura’s Mollabari, Rampura Bazar and Taltala areas. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Rafiqul Islam said around 11:00 pm, “Policemen smelled gas when they went to the scene. We have reported this to Titus. Titus people will come and check and take necessary measures.’ As the smell of gas spread in the area, many panicked posted on Facebook. Many of them also complained that they did not get a connection by calling the emergency contact number of Titus. Many panicked and called the fire service. However, today the fire service sources said that although there were several phone calls last night, no calls were received today
