Barisal Correspondent :
The developers and investors of the Beauty Supermarket under construction in South Chawkbazar, Barisal city, held a press conference at the Barisal Press Club on Sunday (May 25) demanding redress for the victims of various frauds committed by the landowner, including Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury and his son Syed Ashiq Chowdhury.
Abul Hasan Quddus, the developer partner of the under-construction Beauty Supermarket, said in a written statement that he and three partners registered a security deposit of 1 crore taka in cash from Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury on February 6, 2013, including 40 percent of the land including the old building of the Beauty Cinema Hall, at a price of 8 crore taka. They also received 1 crore 7 lakh taka in various times by writing it on a stamp. According to the security deposit registry agreement, they were supposed to give them the documents within 3 months, but instead of giving the documents, Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury’s daughter Syed Kamrunnahar Akh and her brother Kamal Uddin Chowdhury gave her a verbal security deposit. They also filed a case to cancel their security deposit. In January 2017, the landowner Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury proposed to construct a multi-storey building with developer power instead of selling the land to them. Based on his proposal, an agreement was signed on April 27, 2017, to construct a multi-storey building with the land registry.
Abul Hasan Quddus also said that Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury made a secret contract with the president of the Business Owners Association, Akhtaruzzaman, to sell the land. While they had a contract with them and developer power, he cheated them and made a contract with someone else. Later, when they wanted their invested money back, there were several arbitration meetings on the matter. Later, Zulfikar Uddin Chowdhury promised to return their invested Tk 2 crore 7 lakh. But instead of paying the Tk 2 crore 7 lakh invested to the previous developer partners, he gave a check of Tk 2 crore as a guarantee of the money and through a compromise settlement with a 30% party in the project, a new registry agreement was signed with Kazi Mofizul Islam Kamal to develop the land in 2018.
Ashiq Chowdhury Heba, claiming ownership of the land based on a donation deed, illegally demolished their under-construction building in collusion with the then Mayor of Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah.
At the press conference, Quddus claimed that on May 9, Syed Ashiq Chowdhury, along with 30/35 BNP leaders and activists, tried to evict their building with the aim of occupying land. He informed the Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station about this but did not get any redress. On that day, Syed Ashiq Chowdhury managed the OC of Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station Mizanur Rahman and sent him to Kuakata for 2/3 days. He said that if a new building is built in place of Syed Ashiq Chowdhury’s beauty hall, a flat will be registered in the name of the OC’s wife. Quddus claimed that 4 warrants have been issued in the name of Syed Ashiq Chowdhury in America for various crimes and his citizenship has been revoked in America.
Developer partners and investors are on the verge of being victimized by the fraud of Syed Ashiq Chowdhury’s family. Therefore, the affected developers and investors have sought the cooperation of the administration for justice.
When Ashiq Chowdhury’s phone number was called to inquire about the matter, his statement could not be obtained. On the other hand, when the number of Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman was called several times, it was also found to be switched off.
