The family of the late freedom fighter Harun Or Rashid held a press conference alleging the encroachment of the graveyard of the late freedom fighter Harun Or Rashid in Nazirpur Union of Bauphal, Patuakhali and the kidnapping and torture of his son Md. Aliullah. At the press conference held at the residence of the freedom fighter in Nazirpur Union around 12 noon on Tuesday (May 14), other family members complained that they were suffering from insecurity and sought the intervention of the administration.
Victim Aliullah read out a written statement at the press conference. In it, he alleged that an attempt is being made to forcibly occupy their ancestral graveyard and that he was recently kidnapped and tortured physically and mentally, and a ransom of two lakh taka was demanded. The deceased freedom fighter’s wife and daughter Laijuara Lipi, Julekha Begum, son Shafiullah and local dignitaries were present at the time. The family has filed a complaint with Baufal Police Station demanding administrative assistance and legal action for their safety.
Locals say the family has been the target of many attacks on their land in the past few days. Despite the adverse circumstances, the family has received good education and four siblings are working in government jobs.
