The final match of the Arafat Rahman Coco Memorial Football Tournament was held in Pirojpur. In the match held on Saturday (June 14) afternoon, Pirojpur Municipality won the champion title by defeating Pirojpur Sadar Upazila by a margin of 3-1 goals.
The game started with attacks and counterattacks from both teams. Pirojpur Municipality took the lead with a goal by Mohibullah in the 14th minute of the first half. After that, Tariqul scored a goal for Pirojpur Sadar Upazila in the 28th minute of the game to equalize the game at 1-1. Morshed scored again in the 44th minute of the first half to put Pirojpur Municipality ahead. Saifullah scored a goal from a free kick in the 61st minute of the second half to make the difference 3-1.
At the beginning of the game, an anti-drug rally was organized to create anti-drug awareness, in which local sports organizers, administration representatives and citizens from various levels participated.
At the end of the game, prizes were distributed among the winning and runner-up teams.
The prize distribution ceremony was moderated by Arafat Rahman Coco Sports Association Pirojpur District Branch General Secretary Md. Liton Khan and chaired by Arafat Rahman Coco Sports Association Pirojpur District Branch President Adv. Rezaul Karim Mitul. Pirojpur District BNP Convener Principal Alamgir Hossain was present as the chief guest.
He handed over 60 thousand taka and a trophy to the champion team, while the runner-up team received 40 thousand taka and a trophy.
Saifullah was adjudged the best player in the final, while Mohibullah was selected as the Player of the Tournament.
At that time, BNP National Executive Committee member Eliza Zaman, District BNP member secretary Gazi Wahiduzzaman Lavlu, presidents and member secretaries of seven upazilas, local sports organizers, public representatives, journalists from various print and electronic media were present as special guests.
After the game, a cultural program was organized, where local artists performed songs and dances. With a large audience, there was a festive atmosphere throughout the program.
The commentators for the tournament were Pirojpur’s popular commentator Abul Hasnat Ripon and retired Sergeant Azlil.
