Additional IGP of Police Headquarters has been appointed as the head of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury. He was working as Additional IGP in Development Wing at Police Headquarters.
On Tuesday (August 13) by the order of the President, Deputy Secretary of the Police-1 Branch of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He was appointed in a notification signed by Mahabur Rahman Sheikh.
Md. Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury joined the Bangladesh Police Force as ASP on November 15, 1995. He joined the Police Headquarters as DIG (Logistics) to add new parameters to the technical guidelines for logistics materials for Bangladesh Police personnel, to formulate guidelines regarding dress, to increase online services, to increase the capacity of national emergency services, to carry out all the activities of forming police aviation, to increase the operational capacity. He played a role in increasing the capacity of Bangladesh Police by performing the procurement activities of vehicles, equipment, medical equipment etc. through professionalism and sincerity.
Apart from this, he played a role in the corona epidemic by performing his own duties and providing PPE, reagent kits and medical supplies to the policemen on duty. He has a role in enhancing the investigative capacity of police officers by serving as a trainer.
Additional IGP Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury joined Bangladesh Police in 1995 through 15th BCS. Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury served as a UN Police Officer in UN Peacekeeping Missions in Kosovo (2002), Liberia (2006) and Darfur, Sudan (2011). He trained in investigations and interrogations at the US FBI National Academy in Virginia.
During his career, he served as Superintendent of Police in Barisal district from 2007 to 2009 and Rajshahi district in 2012. He was also Staff Officer-to-IGP, DC DB-South and DC Wari in Dhaka Metropolitan Police, SP (Administration and Finance) of DC Headquarters and Special Branch in Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury was born in Sylhet city in 1970. Ancestral residence in Mohidpur village of Barhal Union under Jakiganj Thana of Sylhet. Father late MA Mannan Chowdhury was a professor in Sylhet Government MC University College. Mata Noor Roshan Chowdhury was the head teacher of Sunamganj Government Girls’ School and later Sylhet District Education Officer.
Additional IGP Md. Tawfiq Mahbub Chowdhury obtained SSC from Sylhet Government Pilot High School in 1985, HSC from Sylhet Government MC Intermediate College in 1987 and Honors and Masters Degree in Economics from Dhaka University (1988-94).
