Test series against Bangladesh at home. Pakistan management is not willing to take any action against the team’s best pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi before this series.
The Pakistan cricket team performed well in the run-up to the T20 World Cup held last June. Not only against the arch-rival India, they also lost against teams like USA. As a result, he left the World Cup early.
Soon after, reports of widespread demoralization and lack of discipline among the cricketers in the team came to light. Coach Gary Kirsten directly accused Shaheen Afridi of indiscipline. It is known that Shaheen Afridi misbehaved with the coaching staff of the team. For that there was a possibility of being punished by the PCB.
Shaheen Afridi was accused of misbehaving with former batting coach Mohammad Yusuf while visiting England. Also, another pacer Haris Rauf got into trouble with a fan during the World Cup in the United States. To stop all this, PCB wanted to send a message to the rest by taking action against Shaheen. However, Gary Kirsten and Pakistan Test team coach Jason Gillespie are not in favor of punishment against him before the tour of Bangladesh.
In an interview given to PTI, a PCB source said that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi spoke to Jason Gillespie, Mohammad Yousuf, Gary Kirsten and selector Asad Shafiq about keeping Shaheen out of the Bangladesh series.
There, the two head coaches of Pakistan said that they should now look to the future keeping in mind the interests of the team. They are willing to drop cricketers due to workload or poor performance. However, he is not in favor of excluding Shaheen by dragging past events.
Gillespie, the coach of the Test team, is set foot in Pakistan on Monday. He will make a camp there for a few days. After that, Pakistan will play against Bangladesh with a full strength team. Both coaches told PCB that Shaheen Afridi’s controversy is not so serious that it cannot be resolved through talks within the team. And they should also be given time for team building. So for now Shaheen Afridi got big oxygen on the issue of discipline.
