Union Land Assistant Officer (Naib) Babul Akhtar of Sujanagar Municipal Land Office has filed a case in the name of the dead person who died 8 years ago in Sujanagar, Pabna. Also, it has been alleged that cases have been filed in the name of common people, including an 85-year-old sick old man. A person who died 8 years ago has been made the main accused in the case mentioning the names of 13 people and 10/12 others unknown. Many have questioned the sense of responsibility of the authorities. Many have commented that the administration has illegally mined sand in about 15 places in the district by managing the administration. Complaints of the victims – Naib Babul Akhtar has filed the case as per his wish without any kind of investigation. The victims want action against the villagers. However, the concerned administration is reluctant to call it a mistake, claiming that it was a minor mistake. According to the source of the complaint, the case was filed on February 15 on charges of illegal extraction of sand from the Padma river in Char Bhabanipur area of Sujanagar municipal area. Kader Mandal, son of Bander Mandal of the area, who died 8 years ago, has been made the main accused. The second accused is 85-year-old Shukur Mandal, elder brother of Kader Mandal, who has been ill for a long time. It is also known that many of those who have been accused in this case are not involved in the sand business. Asma Khatun, wife of deceased Quader Mandal, said, ‘My husband died 7 years ago. I am living without help with 3 children. In the meantime, I suddenly heard last day that my husband has been made the main accused for illegal extraction of sand. How can a dead man lift the sand now? Those responsible for this should be punished. Elderly Shakur Mandal, the second accused in the case, Kader Mandal’s elder brother, said, “I cannot move well.” I am 85 years old. I don’t know how and where the sand is extracted. But my deceased younger brother and I have been accused. Iqbal Sardar, the main witness in the case, said, “I don’t know anything about the case. Later I heard that I was made a witness. And the dead and sick people have been accused. We locals are saddened to hear the names of the accused in the case. Many of whose names I am hearing are innocent common people. Babul Akhtar, the accused land assistant officer (Naib) said, “I did not directly see who was doing the sand extraction. I have filed a case after hearing from the people of that area. Later, I applied to the police station to amend the case. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sujanagar Police Station Jalal Uddin said, “We have accepted the case as Naib Sahib has stated. Now if someone is dead or sick then it will be dropped later subject to investigation.’ Naraja Sujanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sukhmoy Sarkar called the matter negligence. He said, “There is nothing wrong with it. Those from whom Naib Saheb filed the case had given wrong information. He was later found dead. There is nothing wrong with this. It has already been given in writing to the police station, I hope there will not be any problem. Later, the name will be removed from the charge sheet. And whether the witness knows something or not is a matter for the court. There is nothing more to say about it.
