Deputy Minister of Water Resources and former organizing secretary of Awami League AKM Enamul Haque Shamim MP said that Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to see a permanent smile on the face of farmers. He is regularly monitoring the activities of Howrah region. Our main aim is to bring home the crops of Howrah farmers. People’s leader Sheikh Hasina is the best in the world as the head of agriculture and farmer-friendly government. He said these things while talking to reporters after visiting Nazarkhali dam of Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj today (Wednesday). He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country is now self-sufficient in food. Even Bangladeshi food and agricultural products are exported abroad. Haor people have contributed a lot to the country’s agriculture. He is working to bring smiles to the people of Haor. Enamul Haque Shamim said, about 2 crore farmers have been given agricultural materials assistance cards in the initiative of the present government for the development of agriculture. Farmers have been given the opportunity to open a bank account for just 10 rupees. Fertilizer prices have been reduced several times, currently the price of fertilizers is Urea 22 taka per kg, TSP 22 taka per kg, DAP 16 taka per kg, MOP 15 taka per kg. And during BNP, TSP was Tk 80, MOP Tk 70, DAP Tk 90, Urea Tk 20 per kg. In other years, subsidy of Tk 9000 crore has been given in fertilizer, but this year due to the war in Russia and Ukraine, the price of fertilizer has increased, subsidy has to be Tk 28000 crore. Still there is no shortage of fertilizer. Under the Agricultural Incentive and Rehabilitation Programme, hundreds of lakhs of farmers are provided free seeds, fertilizers and other inputs of good quality and improved varieties every year. 3 thousand 200 crore projects are underway for agricultural mechanization under which 50 percent to 70 percent. Subsidized prices are being given to agricultural machinery. About 50 projects are ongoing for agricultural development in all over Bangladesh including Naria upazila under which free seeds, fertilizers, fruit fodder, irrigation equipment are being provided free of cost. He also said that India is 3rd in rice production, 3rd in vegetable production, 7th in mango production, 2nd in jackfruit production, 7th in potato production, 8th in guava production, 1st in crop variety innovation, 2nd in jute production. 3rd in freshwater fish production, 1st in hilsa production. The present government is strengthening agricultural research. As a result, hundreds of improved varieties of rice, wheat, jute, vegetables and fruits have been developed and expanded at the farmer level. Currently there are over 100 high yielding and hybrid varieties of rice alone. Enamul Haque Shamim said that the Prime Minister has announced the implementation of Delta Plan-2100 with the aim of building a livable world-class Bangladesh in the future. And 80 percent of the work of this master plan will be implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources. If this is implemented, there will be no problem of river erosion and flooding across the country. The deputy minister also said that a permanent project is being done to protect the Howr region. And to prevent river erosion, various permanent projects are ongoing across the country and new projects are being undertaken. Also river erosion areas have been identified across the country. Permanent embankment, embankment widening, afforestation are also being done there. What needs to be done is being done. Immediate measures are being taken by talking to local public representatives and people. In Sunamganj, the leave of all the officials of the Water Development Board has been cancelled. 26 officers will monitor the activities regularly. Additional Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer will work here on March 7. No negligence will be tolerated.
