The government has decided to open all closed social media including Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, as they promised to follow the constitution of Bangladesh and their own community guidelines.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said that these social media will be opened on Wednesday (July 31) afternoon.
Earlier, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) summoned four platforms of Meta for promoting violent content and not following their own community guidelines.
These social media representatives were scheduled to appear in person at the BTRC on Wednesday (July 31). However, representatives of Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram participated in the meeting virtually from the Singapore office even though they could not appear in person.
The meeting was held at BTRC on Wednesday morning. State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, Chairman of BTRC Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed and senior officials of the organization were present in it.a
